SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — Three water pumps have been placed in Kampung Asahan, Kuala Selangor, to pump out water from low-lying areas and stagnant water within the village.

According to the political secretary of Menteri Besar, Juwairiya Zulkifli, four temporary relief centres (PPS) have been activated in Kuala Selangor, housing 167 flood-affected victims from 51 families as of this morning.

She said another PPS has just been opened in Dewan MPKS Bandar Baru, apart from PPS in Sekolah Bandar Baru, that has been operating to accommodate flood victims from Kampung Asahan and Kampung Tanjung Siam three days ago.

Juwairiya, who is also Bukit Melawati state representative, said continuous rain and high tide phenomenon have caused the Sungai Selangor river to overflow into the village area.

“The condition of some of the houses affected by flood in Kampung Tanjung Siam this morning. I am on my way to the location,” she said on Twitter describing pictures of inundated houses that she shared.

As of yesterday, the state Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) secretariat, Civil Defence Force in Selangor said the number of flood victims dropped to 558 people from 154 families compared to 637 involving 172 families last night with 12 PPS opened — four in Sepang, Kuala Selangor (three) and Kuala Langat (five).
