SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 — Malaysia’s political landscape should be changed for the better, and its participants should shed the public’s perception that being in power is aimed at making themselves rich, said Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the habit of amassing wealth while being active in politics must stop, and should not be tolerated any further.
“1Malaysia Development Berhad, littoral combat ships, helicopters, free gates and submarine projects; they (those involved in the projects) took it all. They treated the country’s wealth as if it was their father’s.
“And it is not just one or two persons, Najib is not the only kleptocrat, for it stems from the system, there are a lot more ‘kaki sakau’ (avaricious individuals).
“Therefore, I hope the people will give us a chance to restore the nation. Let us focus on the economic aspects, including wooing more foreign investors, creating more jobs, bringing down the price of basic necessities, and stabilising our currency.
“We have to save Malaysia because we have the capability,” Anwar said in his ceramah during the Grand Finale Jelajah Mega Pakatan Harapan programme, at Dewan Serbaguna AU2 in Ampang Jaya last night.
Also in attendance were top Harapan component party leaders, including Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, and Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who is also Harapan’s candidate for Gombak parliamentary seat.
Anwar also appealed to voters to give him the chance as time is running short, in light of his age.
“I have tried my best and I am moved by the rise of the people’s power, despite the various criticisms and backlashes that I received,” he added.
Anwar, who is running for the Tambun parliamentary seat, was named as Harapan’s sole prime ministerial candidate, in the event the coalition winds the 15th general election and forms a government in the ongoing general polls, which ends with the polling day on Saturday.
