SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 — The whole of Selangor state is expected to be hit with thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds until 3pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 1.40pm on Facebook, the agency said the inclement weather is anticipated to occur throughout Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.

“Meanwhile, strong weather is also expected in Perak (Kampar, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman), and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Jerantut, Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin).

“Same weather conditions are forecasted for Sarawak: Kuching (Kuching), Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong and Sarikei (Pakan and Sarikei) as well as Sabah: Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat,” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
