SHAH ALAM, Nov 30 — Smart Selangor Bus has recorded an increasing number of users, following the re-opening of more sectors after the Covid-19 pandemic.

State executive councillor for public transport Ng Sze Han said a total of 4.45 million users were recorded as of September 30 this year, compared to 4.31 million users last year.

“The Smart Selangor Bus is one of the state government’s initiatives in reducing travel costs for low-income groups in the state,” he said during Question Time at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, earlier today.

Ng was responding to a query from Sijangkang state assemblyman Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi on Smart Selangor Bus’ performance.

He added the state government is also identifying other initiatives that can be introduced to the people to help reduce their burdens, especially for those in need.

Smart Selangor Bus is offered for free to local citizens, while foreign citizens are required to pay 90 sen beginning on March 15 this year, via the Citizen E-Payment (CEPat) app.

On November 25, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the transit van service will be implemented in the first quarter of next year, as part of the state government’s effort to complete the public transport ecosystem in Selangor.

He said the service, with an approximate cost of RM25 million, will complement the Smart Selangor Bus system in narrow routes and high-density areas.
