i-SEED: RM1.3 mln fund to help equip business, implement entrepreneur workshops

SHAH ALAM, Dec 6 — A total of RM1.3 million has been used for the Indian Selangor Empowerment and Entrepreneurs Development (i-SEED) programme as of October.

Selangor state executive councillor for socio-economic development V Ganabatirau said the allocation provided for the initiative had been optimally used.

“The allocation that was approved for the i-SEED programme in 2021 totalled RM1.5 million, while in 2022, it was RM1.3 million.

“Among the programmes that have been implemented are the Selangor Indian Entrepreneur Equipment Assistance programme, theoretical and practical workshops or training, entrepreneurial communication and skills for the Indian community especially I-Seed aid recipients,” he said in answer to Pandamaran state assemblyman Leong Tuck Chee regarding the status of I-Seed during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, here yesterday.

Ganabatirau said all programmes under i-SEED are implemented exclusively for the Indian community.

“This is because we are aware that the Indian community requires extensive exposure to empowerment programmes to produce highly skilled individuals and new entrepreneurs,” he said.

i-SEED was launched on April 7 last year with the aim of improving the economic status of Indians through the provision of equipment assistance depending on the nature of business.

Among the requirements to be eligible are to be a Selangor citizen or a resident for more than 10 years, individuals and household income of less than RM3,000 per month and the business must operate in the state.
