Number of Terengganu flood victims continue to rise, over 40,000 as of 8am

SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — About 72,583 residents have been placed in 444 temporary relief centres (PPS) following the northeast monsoon phenomenon which caused five states to be affected by floods as of 8 this morning.

According to the Welfare Department Disaster Info application, Kelantan and Terengganu are the worst affected states with 72,266 people placed in 437 PPS.

The number of flood victims in Kelantan has reached 31,411 people from 9,037 families in 139 PPS, while Terengganu has 40,849 people from 11,361 families in 298 PPS.

Other states affected by floods are Pahang with 221 victims, Johor (48 victims) and Perak (54 victims).

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department predicts rain for Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang throughout the day.

Intermittent thunderstorms are also expected in the afternoon for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.
