SHAH ALAM, Dec 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered the nation’s local authorities to monitor all resorts operating in their respective constituencies.

He has also asked them to improve the security aspects of the sites.

“The Malaysian Meteorological Department has stated the 2022/2023 northeast monsoon as well as continuous rain are expected to occur on the East Coast of Peninsular and east of Sabah, starting December 17,” Anwar said in Parliament today.

He also brought a motion regarding the landslide tragedy that occurred at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor, in the early hours of Friday (December 16) morning.

The Tambun MP added that almost 700 members from 16 government and state agencies are involved in the search-and-rescue operations, from the first day of the incident until today.

They include personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, the police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Civil Defence Force, the Malaysian Volunteer Department, the Malaysian Special Search and Rescue Team (Smart), and the K9 sniffer dogs unit.

“The House expresses its condolences to the individuals and families of the victims involved in the landslide tragedy at Father’s Organic Farm, Batang Kali, on December 16.

“The House is deeply affected and saddened by the incident involving a total of 94 victims, consisting of Malaysians which include children, as well as foreigners.

“Until now, a total of 61 victims have been successfully found and 24 victims confirmed dead at the scene while another nine are still missing,” Anwar said.

This morning, the Parliament sitting observed a minute of silence to honour and commemorate the victims.
