Puspakom provides mobile truck, van units for vehicle inspection services

ALOR GAJAH, Dec 23 — The Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) is providing commercial and private vehicle inspection services through Mobile Truck Units and Mobile Van Units to facilitate customers.

Puspakom marketing and advisory services chief Datuk Ooi Win Juat said through the service, vehicle inspections will be carried out directly at the user’s location and will also save on waiting time.

“The method of inspection using these two services is the same as that done at the Puspakom branch, and the inspection results will be obtained on the same day the inspection is carried out.

“These two services have received a favourable response from the public with an average of about 50 to 60 vehicles for each Mobile Truck Unit,” he told reporters at Puspakom Rumbia here, today.

Ooi said this after a working visit by the State Public Works, Transport, Public Facilities, Infrastructure and Flood Management Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman, who was accompanied by Melaka Road Transport Department director Muhammad Firdaus Shariff.

He said so far, Puspakom had more than 20 mobile truck units and the service was usually used by companies with many heavy vehicles, and the unit’s services were concentrated in rural areas such as Gua Musang and Kuala Krai in Kelantan, Besut in Terengganu and Jempol in Negeri Sembilan.

Ooi added that Puspakom also provided free private vehicle inspection services to users, especially before the festive holidays, to ensure that the vehicles being driven back to hometowns were in a safe condition.

“This service is provided free of charge to users who voluntarily offer their vehicles for inspection and it is part of Puspakom’s corporate social responsibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ooi said vehicle owners, especially those who often travel long distances, should perform periodic inspections at Puspakom to ensure the safety of the vehicles they drive.

He said among the important components of a vehicle that need to be paid attention to are the brakes and the steering wheel, which could potentially cause road accidents.
