SHAH ALAM, Dec 5 — Selangor has provided sufficient financial allocation for emergency purposes.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the amount of Tabungan Warisan Negeri Selangor stood at nearly RM700 million and it could be utilised for specific purposes.

“The fund cannot be used on a whim. It is kept for the long term should any unfortunate situation happen in the state.

“Apart from that, we also have our assets and shares which could be liquidated, in addition to existing cash,” he said when answering a question from Semenyih state assemblyman Zakaria Hanafi during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.

Amirudin said the state government utilised additional spending of nearly RM180 million when the huge floods hit last year.

He said RM123 million of the total were used for household assistance, while the remaining were allocated for affected slope and river banks due to the floodings.

In November last year, some 633 people were affected by the floods after several areas in Shah Alam and Klang were inundated following continuous heavy rains.
