In a warning issued at 3pm on Facebook, the agency said that other affected areas include Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

“Similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Perak (Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Bentong, Temerloh and Bera) and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi).

“Meanwhile, in East Malaysia stormy weather is forecasted for Sarawak: Kuching, Sibu (Selangau), Mukah (Daro, Matu, Dalat and Mukah), Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru and Marudi) and Limbang as well as Sabah: Pedalaman (Keningau and Tambunan), Pantai Barat (Papar and Ranau) and Sandakan (Tongod),” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding an hour for a single release.
