Elmina R&R becomes reference model for MBPJ

By Azian Aziz

SHAH ALAM, Jan 8 — The Elmina rest and service (R&R) area to be a reference model for the rebranding of stalls in the administrative area of Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

In a statement, MBPJ said the matter was decided as a result of a visit of the council’s delegation led by its Mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir to the southbound Elmina R&R last Wednesday.

“With spacious booth design, eco-friendly environment, complete facilities, selection of operators and the right type of food make the Elmina R&R area the rest stop choice for highway users.

“Hence, MBPJ will take the stalls as a reference in line with the wishes of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who wants every local authority to ensure that the stalls and hawker stands be clean and beautiful as a whole,” it said in a Facebook post.

The arrival of the MBPJ delegation was warmly welcomed by Prolintas Group chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah and his staff.

MBPJ said planning for the stall rebranding project in its administrative area will begin with the construction of booths in Jalan Cecawi in Kota Damansara.

The Elmina R&R area maintained by Prolintas Expressway Sdn Bhd has been upgraded with a ‘Modern Industrial Minimalist’ concept and was completed in 2021.

Among the upgrade works carried out was the improvement of the main entrance space, dining room, surau (prayer rooms) and the surrounding area through a natural lighting system and filling the existing space with fresh plants.

This R&R area is also equipped with facilities such as WiFi, public address system, closed-circuit cameras and 24-hour security control.
