Large-scale road resurface works in Selangor to begin in March

By Zareef Muzammil

AMPANG JAYA, Jan 10 — Large-scale road resurface works throughout the state are expected to begin in March, says state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim.

He said the project received a total allocation of RM50 million in the 2023 Selangor Budget and will involve all roads under the purview of local councils within the state.

“We will carry out the mega resurface works throughout the state, except on federal roads. The project is scheduled to begin in March,” he said when met after visiting the landslide site, here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Izham also called on Putrajaya to monitor roads under their jurisdiction which required resurface works due to poor maintenance aside from various complaints from road users.

“I have forwarded the matter to the minister and the Works Department Director General. We must have a proper method to ensure that federal roads including highways are in good condition.

“We have brought the issues up multiple times. The people will always assume every road belongs to Selangor. We cannot use the allocated funds for federal roads because it is not authorised by the audit department,” he said.

The state government has allocated RM145 million to improve road networking systems to better facilitate road users’ experience.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said out of the total, some RM40.98 million have been set aside for the Works Department to construct new roads at several locations.
