PUTRAJAYA, Jan 14 — The state government has handed out RM228,500 in rewards to the members of the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) Selangor contingent who won medals in November last year.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the monies are a sign of appreciation and recognition for the 50 athletes who performed exceptionally, bringing glory to Selangor’s name.
“I am happy and moved by the achievements of the Para Sukma 2022 athletes. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, all of you performed well and garnered 78 medals, placing Selangor in fourth position overall.
“You have all proven yourselves capable of bringing fame to the state, even though your abilities are different from others,” he said during the handover ceremony at the Palm Garden Hotel yesterday.
Also in attendance at the event were state executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman, Selangor Youth and Sports Department (JBS) director Azura Sarbin, and Selangor State Sports Council (MSN) executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi.
The ceremony saw the gold medallists earn RM3,000, silver medallists RM2,000, and bronze medallists RM1,000.
Amirudin added that coaches and managers were also given incentives based on the medals obtained in each event, with gold earning RM500, silver RM300, and bronze RM150.
“I wish to express my special appreciation to all parties, especially the Selangor JBS, the Selangor Sports and Recreation Association for the Disabled (Pesron), Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporated) or MBI, and the Selangor MSN, for constantly providing strong support to the state’s para-athletes.
“I also thank the managers and coaches who are always committed to guiding the athletes in becoming more competitive in every event,” he said.
The 20th edition of Para Sukma took place from November 1 to November 6, and saw 10 types of sports and 294 events with 15 state contingents participating.
