Preparation for 12th APG now in final phase

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 — The Asean Para Sports Federation (APSF) are happy to see preparations for the 12th Asean Para Games (APG), to be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in June, entering the final phase.

The APSF said the intensive preparations, which began more than two years ago, are coming along well and on the right track, with athletes from all 11 participating nations ready to converge on Phnom Penh from June 3 to June 9 for the APG.

The week-long 12th APG will concentrate at the newly-built Morodok Techo Sports Complex, in Phnom Penh’s northern suburb, with some 2,000 athletes and officials primed for action in 13 sports.

“Today, as we celebrate the 100-day countdown, we must ensure that our athletes are given equal opportunities to prove themselves and excel at the highest competitive sporting platform.

“The APG not only provides such opportunities, but it also helps provide strength to uphold our equality and inclusivity agenda,” said APSF president Major General Osoth Bhavilai in a statement in conjunction with the 100-day countdown celebration today.

He also believes that the 12th APG will live up to its theme of Sports: Live In Peace, and give athletes the best stage to gear up for their next major tournament — the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Para Games in October.

The 13 sports to be featured at the 12th APG are athletics, badminton, boccia, chess, goalball, five and seven-a-side football, judo, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball.
