By Sulyn Chong

SHAH ALAM, Feb 19 — Thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds are expected to hit four Selangor districts until 7pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a warning issued at 3.30pm on Facebook, the agency said that inclement weather is anticipated for Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Petaling and Hulu Langat.

“Other states to see similar bad weather are Perak (Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim) and Kuala Lumpur.

“Thunderstorms are also forecasted in Sarawak: Sri Aman, Betong and Sarikei,” it said.

MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
