Civil servants must acclimatise with social media-related communication changes — MB

By Diana Abd Wahab

GOMBAK, March 4 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged civil servants, particularly those in local authorities throughout the state, to be prepared in adapting to changing trends in communication, especially social media.

He said they must increase their knowledge in this respect, and not be caught off-guard where communication is concerned.

“15 or even 10 years ago, we would wait half a day or even a full 24 hours to get any news or verification on the information. Yet today we do not have to wait that long, within a matter of moments the information will reach us on social media.

“Those working on the front lines services or at the front counter ought to be ready with such changes, as people constantly shift and move about.

“Hence why we must be cautious, not just in terms of understanding social media, but also grasping its varieties, forms and movements,” Amirudin said.

That’s why we have to be careful not just to have but to understand the varieties, forms and movements of social media,” said Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar was speaking at the officiation of the Selayang Municipal Council’s Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang 2022 awards ceremony, at Setia Eco Templer yesterday night.

Amirudin said this will pose a challenge for civil servants when it comes to maintaining their excellence and defending their integrity, seeing as how more and more people are watching and expressing their views through social media.
