Selangor MACC nabs professor for alleged abuse of power

SHAH ALAM, March 1 — The Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a deputy director of a public university for the alleged abuse of his position involving over RM30,000 from the profits of an international conference programme organised by the institution.

According to sources, the suspect, who is in his 40s, is a JUSA C professor and was detained at the Selangor MACC office here at 3.30pm when he came to give his statement.

The sources added that the suspect allegedly made the decision to transfer the profit to his personal bank account in August 2021.

Selangor MACC chief Datuk Alias Salim confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

He said the suspect will be taken to the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning for a remand application.
