850 Kota Anggerik families receive shopping vouchers to lighten Aidilfitri expenses

SHAH ALAM, April 2 — A total of 850 families in the Kota Anggerik state constituency each received RM200 in Jom Shopping Perayaan shopping vouchers, for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period.

Its state assemblyman Mohd Najwan Halimi said the distribution of the vouchers at the handover ceremony in Giant Supermarket at Section 13 today is from a RM170,000 allocation.

“We have fully utilised all the Jom Shopping Perayaan quotas (for Hari Raya Aidilfitri) that were given to us by the state government, and the vouchers handed over to eligible recipients.

“This year differs from others as we advanced the handover date to 11 days into the Ramadan fasting month, as opposed to 10 days before Aidilfitri, so that recipients can do early shopping before the supermarkets are swamped with buyers,” he said during the ceremony.

Mohd Najwan said the state government has increased the voucher value to RM200 this year, from RM100 before.

“The recipients have responded positively to the changes, as it is in line with the current increase in living costs and the of household goods,” he said.

Jom Shopping Perayaan is an initiative structured around Malaysia’s three main festivals and is meant for lower-income families to purchase festive goods.

In addition to the value increase the eligibility threshold for recipients has also been changed from a monthly household income of RM2,000 and below to RM3,000.

The 2023 Selangor Budget tabled on November 25 last year has allocated RM16.48 million for the vouchers, which are expected to benefit 82,400 recipients all across Selangor.
