Continue practising public health measures to curb spike in Covid-19 cases, says MB

GOMBAK, April 9 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has advised the people to continue practising public health precautions during the Aidilfitri celebration.

The Menteri Besar said individuals who are exhibiting symptoms or feeling unwell are advised to avoid social events to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

“The Aidilfitri celebration this time around brings more meaning as there are no more movement restrictions as in the previous years.

“In 2021, we were not able to celebrate as usual and the same goes for 2020. But this year we are able to do so, but I would advise everyone to exercise caution.

“If you are feeling unwell or having symptoms, don’t force yourself (in meeting people). There are new cases but they are not serious, but we need to curb them first,” he said at the Gombak Parliament Aidilfitri donation ceremony for the Hulu Kelang state constituency at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) AU2 Multipurpose Hall, here today.

Apart from Hulu Kelang, the Aidilfitri donations were also distributed by Amirudin, who is also the Gombak MP, to the Gombak Setia state constituency at Dewan Beringin Taman Seri Gombak.

Previously, the Health Ministry (MOH) had stated that 11 educational clusters were reported in the seventh epidemiology week 2023 (ME 13/2023) from March 26 to April 1, following the re-opening of the school session in mid-March 2023 and the active community movements during the last school holiday season.

Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has allocated RM700,000 to assist the less fortunate in the Gombak constituency for the Aidilfitri festive season.

Amirudin said the contribution would benefit 1,500 recipients from the low-income group, including senior citizens.

“The wakalah zakat allocation money is used in the Aidilfitri contributions that MBI distributes to individuals who are eligible and in need.

“I hope that the cash and rice support will be used appropriately and ease the burden of having to purchase Aidilfitri necessities,” he said when met after handing out the donations for Gombak Setia.

Last week, MBI also handed over Ihya’ Ramadan aid to 97 mosques and suraus in Gombak.

The contributions include 22 mosques and 75 suraus to facilitate the religious institutions in providing equipment to celebrate fasting and conduct religious programmes.
