Kelantan register fewer accident cases throughout Op Selamat 20

GUA MUSANG, April 30 — Kelantan police recorded 586 accident cases throughout the Op Selamat 20 period which was held in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season starting from April 20 to April 27.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the figure (586) was 112 cases less compared with the 698 cases registered during Op Selamat 18 last year.

He added he is pleased the various programmes and action plans taken by the authorities throughout the period have produced positive results.

“We achieved our target and objective of reducing the number of fatal accidents,” Muhamad Zaki said when met during a Community Policing programme ‘Kelantan Police chief with the Orang Asli community programme’ at Kampung Pasir Linggi, Pos Lebir, earlier today.

Although the number of accident cases was lower, the number of fatal accidents saw a slight increase throughout the eight-day operation.

“There were 14 fatal accidents and 14 cases of death throughout the period compared with nine in the previous year,” he said.
