Sultan, Tengku Permaisuri call upon Muslims to mark Syawal with charity, strengthening bonds

SHAH ALAM, April 22 — Muslims should celebrate Syawal as a victorious month in a lively and harmonious atmosphere while remembering the less fortunate after a Ramadan month filled with worship and various spiritual activities.

In a special address, the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin expressed their wishes for Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all Muslims nationwide, and especially in the state.

The following is the full address text from Their Royal Highnesses:

His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Her Royal Highness the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin express their fulsome wishes of Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all Muslims, especially to Selangor residents.

Their Royal Highnesses both hope this Aidilfitri’s celebrations will be held in a lively and harmonious atmosphere.

During the glorious month of Syawal, the believers are called upon to take the opportunity and increase the practice of charity to the needy.

Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin both encourage Muslims to continue saying and writing good things as well as avoid slander and negative opinion, for all that is done is for the sake of Allah SWT.

Their Royal Highnesses also reminded Muslims about the importance of maintaining social ties and the bonds of fellowship, even more so during Syawal with its tradition of open houses and visiting friends and family. Such practices ought to be maintained.

Similarly, those returning to their hometowns for the festive periods are advised to drive cautiously while on the road.

May the Syawal, coming after the conclusion of Ramadan, be greeted with true joy.
