KUALA SELANGOR, May 17 — Komuniti Kesihatan Selangor (SUKA) volunteers carried out free health screenings for visitors of the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat (JER) affordable basic necessities sales programme for the Bukit Melawati state constituency, at Surau Al-Falah in Taman Sirambai, earlier today.

Its coordinator Normanis Abd Rahman said 10 volunteers were assigned to perform the screenings, as well as share health tips and nutritional guidance for visitors.

“When it is deemed necessary, the SUKA team is called to come by and conduct health checks for visitors throughout Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year. This is the third time we have done so in the state government’s sales programme.

“So far, residents have reacted quite positively to the tests, with over 70 individuals coming to undergo diabetes and high blood pressure screening since 9.30am,” he said during the screenings.

Normanis added the volunteers also reminded visitors, especially the elderly, to take their medication at the appointed time.

“They are not doctors but have been equipped through courses and training. We provide advice and always remind those coming for the screenings of the importance of taking medication at the prescribed time.

“Our wish is to help people in the community to live healthier lives,” he said.

SUKA was launched by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on August 2021, and membership is open to Selangor residents aged 18 and above and in good health.

With over 1,800 volunteers, SUKA has a presence in all 56 state constituencies, who carry out public health activities, particularly those related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

With a RM1.2 million expenditure, each state constituency receives RM18,000 to carry out beneficial activities, with volunteers provided with training and courses related to the appropriate modules.
