Widow of TV3 cameraman receives conbtributions under Kasih@HAWANA Fund initiative

MANJUNG, May 24 — The widow of TV3 cameraman Rosli Abu Bakar, Haslinda Ahmad was among the recipients of donations under the Kasih@HAWANA Fund 2023 initiative, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme in conjunction with the National Journalists Day (HAWANA) 2023 celebration on May 29.

She received the donations, contributed by the Communications and Digital Ministry, Pusat Pakaian Hari-Hari, Mydin and Aeon Big from the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Perak bureau chief Syamsiah Sahat, yesterday.

Rosli, who was a TV3 cameraman for the Perak bureau, died at Manjung Hospital on May 9 due to diabetes, high blood pressure and heart complications. He was 59. He joined TV3 in 1986 and also served in Penang.

Also present was a representative from Astro Awani office in Perak, Abd Razak Mohd Ali, who is also Perak Media Practitioners Association (PPMP) deputy chairman, Perak Daily News Bureau chief Saifullah Ahmad, and TV3 representative in Perak, Shaharil Kadir.

Haslinda, 59, when met at her residence in Kampung Deralik, Sitiawan here, expressed her gratitude for all the contributions, including from PPMP.

The Kasih@HAWANA Fund programme implemented through Bernama as the implementing agency of HAWANA 2023, plans to visit journalists and media members in need, regardless of whether they are still in service or have retired across the country.

The HAWANA 2023 celebration will be held in Ipoh, Perak, from May 27 to May 29 with the theme Free Media, Pillar of Democracy, to re-emphasise the issue of media freedom for journalists in carrying out their duties.

The HAWANA 2023 Summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 28.

The date May 29 was gazetted as National Journalists’ Day in conjunction with the publication of the first newspaper in Malaysia, Utusan Melayu, on May 29, 1939, which became the first media platform in the country.
