AirAsia to operate direct Penang-Hong Kong flight this August

GEORGE TOWN, June 7 — AirAsia will be launching a direct flight route from Penang to Hong Kong effective this August 10.

Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said that the direct Penang-Hong Kong flight operated by AirAsia would be advantageous for Penang to attain higher tourism and economic growth.

“Hong Kong is a hugely-popular destination for Malaysians, so this new route will undoubtedly be well-received.

“We applaud AirAsia for its unwavering efforts to introduce unique routes, hence further promoting Penang as a must-visit destination in Malaysia with a total of 217 weekly flights,” he told the reporters at the press conference here today.

Whilst also enabling Penangites to explore other countries, he said the direct flights will also reinforce Penang’s status as a top tourist hotspot in Malaysia and contribute significantly to the island’s overall appeal.

“This surge is expected to generate greater tourism receipts, creating a significant economic impact for local businesses and the state’s economy as a whole.

“The influx of travellers will invigorate various sectors, including hospitality, food and beverage, retail, and transportation, stimulating job creation and contributing to the overall prosperity of Penang,” he added.
