Don’t take risks, vote for Harapan to maintain economic excellence — Exco

SHAH ALAM, June 23 — It is incumbent on the people of Selangor to vote for Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) in the coming state election to ensure the state’s excellent economic growth in recent years can be perpetuated into the future.

Executive councillor for youth generation development, sports and human capital development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said this is crucial to ensure Selangor remains a developed state and the nation’s highest gross domestic product (GDP) contributor.

In this regard, he urged the rakyat not to take any risk come polling day.

“I hope the public will make the right choice by retaining Harapan,” the Paya Jaras state assemblyman said during an event, here, yesterday.

Previously, on June 9, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had said that the efficiency of the state administration under Harapan had ensured that surplus revenue can be returned to the people through various welfare programmes.

He added that this achievement was largely driven by the state leadership lineup, whom he described as being free from corruption and stern in avoiding wastages.

“The state’s economy has grown under the Harapan administration. For instance, at a time when other states were struggling to find surplus eggs and chickens, we acted by introducing the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat, thanks to our strong financial position.

“Selangor is also a state that has implemented various health programmes. In fact, we are the only state that provides insurance to all its people aged 30 days to 80 years old.

“As such, these surpluses in state revenue can be returned back to the public via initiatives and aid,” he said.

In 2021, Selangor remained the largest contributor to Malaysia’s economy, accounting for 24.8 per cent.

It contributed RM343.5 billion in total GDP, an increase compared to 2020’s RM327.1 billion.

Amirudin had previously expressed confidence that Selangor would be able to further increase GDP contribution to up to 30 per cent between 2025 and 2026, driven by projects such as the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor and NCT Smart Industrial Park.
