SHAH ALAM, June 5 — The immediate action to carry out flood mitigation works in and around Klang has managed to successfully control the flash floods that affected the district yesterday morning.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said due to this, the floodwaters in the affected areas had receded by afternoon.

“Presently the flash floods have only affected Klang district, where waters have receded, affecting only a number of families.

“We will receive further reports on the floods tonight,” he said after officiating Karnival Jom Heboh’s closing ceremony at Stadium Shah Alam yesterday evening.

Several areas at Bandar Bukit Raja in Klang and in Setia Alam experienced floods after several hours of heavy rainfall yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, the carnival marks the first time the state government has participated in it to reach out to a younger audience.

Asides from Amirudin, other dignitaries in attendance include the state executive councillor for young generations Mohd Khairuddin Othman, the state executive councillor for consumer affairs Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, and Seri Setia state assemblyman Halimey Abu Bakar.

The Menteri Besar said the carnival is not only limited to its purpose as a form of entertainment but also to share information and government programmes with the public.

“Since this morning, many have visited government counters such as the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Selangor Sports Council (MSN) regarding Inisiatif Roda Darul Ehsan (RiDE).

“We are channelling information about Selangor’s initiatives, and what the state government is doing for the people. We can gather the public through entertainment methods, but in a highly controlled manner,” he said.

During the carnival, Amirudin also presented prizes to two winners of the Jelajah Kita Selangor Aidilfitri interesting video competition.

It also featured the Jom Heboh concert, with performances by local artists including Haqiem Rusli, Afieq Shazwan, and Kumpulan OVA.

Organised by Media Prima Berhad, Karnival Jom Heboh serves as a platform to engage with younger generations and to promote the creation of a Madani society through activities that emphasise family and sports.
