Rahmah insurance, takaful packages as low as RM5 a month

PUTRAJAYA, June 22 — Malaysians, especially the B40 group, are now able to subscribe to insurance coverage or personal accident takaful coverage for as low as RM5 a month or RM36 yearly, including sales tax, under the Rahmah Insurance and Rahmah Takaful packages.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the Rahmah packages, which were offered by insurance and takaful companies Etiqa General Insurance Bhd and Etiqa General Takaful Bhd, included compensation of up to RM80,000 for those suffering permanent disability due to accident or disease, or death due to accidents.

“Malaysians aged 16 to 65 can apply for the plans, which can be renewed till 70,” he said during a media conference after attending a ministry monthly gathering and the launch of the RAHMAH protection plans, earlier today.

He added that Allianz General Insurance Malaysia Bhd was also offering Rahmah packages, including Allianz4All MyProtection Insurance, with personal accident coverage of up to RM50,000 and a yearly premium of RM53 to RM79.50 including sales taxes, should the policy holder be admitted to a government hospital due to illness or accident.

Policy holders also enjoy two additional benefits, a reimbursement of medical expenses and emergency aid payment of RM750 should they be evacuated due to floods, depending on the selected plan without additional costs, he said.

Allianz General has also introduced MotorcyclePlus coverage that offers additional protection, including personal accident claims of up to RM10,000 for the rider and pillion rider, along with hospital allowance through the motorcycle insurance policy, based on the registered engine capacity, along with Allianz Comprehensive MotorcyclePlus policy for motorcycles with a capacity of 250 cc and below. Salahuddin said.

The packages would target gig economy workers who rode motorcycles, along with the Payung Rahmah programme that covers personal protection and property like vehicles.

The plans offered are hoped to spur more Malaysians to obtain insurance coverage for their own protection at affordable prices.
