KLANG, Aug 13 — Newly-minted Lembah Jaya state assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad has commended his state constituency’s voters for giving him the mandate in yesterday’s Selangor State Election.

Popularly known as the rap artist Altimet, he also appreciated the hard work of both Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) machinery during the campaigning period.

“I am extremely grateful to all the voters who ignited my spirit to continue serving and take pride in being a part of Lembah Jaya.

“I am confident the Unity Government will repay the voters’ trust in them, which was enormous as far as Lembah Jaya is concerned,” he said after the announcement of Harapan-BN’s results at Hotel Wyndham yesterday night.

Syed Ahmad also pledged to serve Lembah Jaya’s residents to the best of his ability, regardless of party differences.

“I will begin my duties early tomorrow morning (today) with the congregation at the mosque,” he said.

Syed Ahmad is the first mainstream rap artist in Malaysia to win a seat in any State Legislative Assembly.

He won by securing 26,116 votes, defeating his opponent Sharifah Haslizah Syed Ariffin from Perikatan Nasional, who garnered 19,409 votes, by a majority of 6,707 votes.
