Madani Economy can be executed with existing budget — Ahmad Maslan

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 — The unity government is capable of executing Madani Economy: Empowering the People initiatives, said Deputy Finance Minister I Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He said the framework took into account the allocation in this year’s budget, which is an operating expenditure of RM289.1 billion.

“We have the money because we collect revenue from direct and indirect taxes through the Inland Revenue Board, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, and certain dividends,” he said on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme last night.

Ahmad said his ministry is encouraged to use all the resources allocated to implement the initiatives outlined under Madani Economy.

“This task is not undertaken by only one ministry, but all ministries. The prime minister, who is also finance minister, has asked all ministries to outline initiatives that will be implemented.

“However, if there is a need for extra funding, they need to request it from the Finance Ministry before Budget 2024 is tabled in October,” he said.

Ahmad said the Budget 2024 engagement sessions, held over the past few weeks, have emphasised efforts to empower the economy and ensure people’s wellbeing.

“The ministry, public and private sectors, and non-governmental organisations and agencies involved in the sessions were also briefed on the Madani Economy concept that will be implemented,” he said.
