More flood victims in Kedah but fewer in Perlis

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — The number of flood victims in Kedah grew while Perlis recorded a drop this morning.

In Kedah, there were 1,908 people from 576 families this morning, compared with 1,813 people from 530 families last night.

Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) disaster management secretariat head Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said evacuees are housed at 15 relief centres in Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Baling and Kota Setar.

The Kubang Pasu centres are at SMK Changlun, SK Malau and Dewan PPK Lubuk Batu; while the Pokok Sena centres are at SK Bukit Hijau, Maahad Tarbiyah Derang and SK Permatang Limau.

The Baling centres are at SK Iboi, SMK Jerai, SK Kampung Keda and Surau Annur, while the Kota Setar centres are at SK Taman Aman, SMK Kepala Batas, SK Seri Gunung, SK Titi Gajah and SMK Alor Merah.

In Perlis, there were 44 flood victims, a drop from 48 yesterday.

Perlis APM director Mohd Izaimi Md Daud said the evacuees, from 16 families, are accommodated at the relief centre at SK Kubang Gajah.

The victims were from Kampung Kubang Gajah and Alor Ara, he said when contacted by Bernama.
