Proton sees sales top 100,000 units for 2023 following August delivery of 13,955 units

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — Proton Holdings Bhd’s (Proton) sales have crossed the 100,000-unit threshold with 13,955 units delivered in August 2023, bringing total sales so far this year to 104,602 units.

The year-to-date sales represented an increase of 19.6 per cent, or 17,121 units, over the volume recorded for the first eight months of 2022, the car maker said.

“With total industry volume (TIV) for the month estimated to be at 74,200 units, Proton’s market share is projected to be at 18.8 per cent for August, with a year-to-date market share figure of 20.8 per cent.

“The company’s volume growth, however, remains ahead of TIV, which is now estimated at 12.2 per cent for 2023,” it said in a statement today.

Proton Edar Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah said the company’s sales growth reflected how its focus on delivering better quality products, along with a premium experience delivered by the 154 3S/4S dealerships in its network, had a positive effect on customers.

“Going forwards, these efforts towards better products and services will continue and be boosted by the recent announcement of Proton Test Labs receiving ISO 17025 accreditation as well as the company’s impending entry into the electric vehicle space with smart Malaysia.”

Proton said the Proton Saga was the best-selling model in August, achieving its highest monthly figure of 2023 with 6,585 units, which placed it second overall for sales in Malaysia for a third consecutive month.

“For the first eight months of 2023, a remarkable 45,836 units have been delivered, which is an increase of 34.2 per cent over the same period in 2022,” it said.

The company said its newest addition, Proton X90, led monthly and year-to-date sales for D-segment sport utility vehicles with the addition of 719 units in August and a cumulative total of 2,944 units thus far, despite having only three full months of sales under its belt.
