Selangor pioneers KPDN online price checking, complaints programme

SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — Selangor has been selected to pioneer a Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry (KPDN) Spot-i programme, a digital platform for users to access relevant information and lodge complaints online.

State KPDN director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey said Spot-i, short for Selangor point of trade information, allows users to obtain pricing of basic goods and controlled items, among other information, just by scanning its QR code at participating premises.

The platform also allows the public to lodge immediate complaints for offences committed by businesses, including failure to display prices or the displayed prices being inconsistent to the actual amount charged.

Zuhairi said around 200 premises in the state, including sundry shops, are expected to participate in the programme each day, following its official launch yesterday.

“We have actually soft launched Spot-i two months ago in selected premises and the feedback we received were very positive,” he told reporters after distributing the Spot-i’s poster at the  Sungai Buloh R&R yesterday.

“Various bits of information will be made available on the portal, including policies and announcements by the ministry, so users will get the latest updates from legitimate sources.”

He said other related news that are not directly under KPDN jurisdiction, such as rice supply disruption, will also be updated in the portal.

According to Zuhairi, 77 inspection and price monitoring officers will be putting up the Spot-i posters each day, while carrying out their usual daily tasks.

He added that the programme will be expanded to other states in the future once approved by the ministry’s top management.
