SHAH ALAM, Sept 13 — The Selangor Local Youth Movement (PeBS) programme will be continued and enhanced to align with current needs, according to the state executive councillor for youth Mohd Najwan Halimi.

He said these enhancements will encompass all aspects in line with the new vision and policies of the Youth and Sports Ministry

“PeBS has been one of our long-standing programmes since 2009. At that time, the (current) Menteri Besar was the state executive councillor for youth. We will continue with improvements that are amenable to the current situation.

“Youths today face various challenges, and it is our responsibility to implement programmes and activities to empower them,” he said in an interview with SelangorKini.

Mohd Najwan added the first order of things is to revive the Rakan Muda programme, which was relaunched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on June 25.

“We support this initiative and will assist it as, at the moment, the (public) response has been less than satisfactory. We will help make the Unity Government’s agenda a success by attracting as many youths as possible to join Rakan Muda,” he said.

PeBS was rebranded in 2021 from the Local Youth Empowerment Programme (PeBT), which was introduced in 2009.

Local youth leaders play a role as catalysts to develop younger generations in each state constituency.
