SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 — The proposed redevelopment of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SAAS), more widely known as the Subang Airport, will help pave the way for the Selangor government to establish the new Greater Klang Valley administration, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said this will unify the administrative processes of the cities within its jurisdiction, including Klang, which is set to be given a city status soon.
“I am glad that the Federal government is looking to elevate the status and role of the Subang Airport. It represents a tremendous opportunity as the state government plans to formulate a new administration that encompasses the Greater Klang Valley.
“This will connect the Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, and the soon-to-be-elevated Klang into a single cohesive administration, offering seamless government services through digitalisation and automation, and offering the private sector better paying jobs through better technology.”
Amirudin said this in his speech at the opening ceremony of the Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) 2023 in Bukit Jelutong, here, today.
Previously, it was reported that the Federal government had approved an allocation of RM290 million towards the redevelopment of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport.
SAAS’ operator, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, had clarified then that the initial expenditure will be directed towards revamping public infrastructure, predominantly improving public roads to alleviate both current and future congestion in the vicinity of the airport.
In his address, Amirudin also reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing high-impact employment opportunities for Selangor citizens as he enters his second term as menteri besar.
“I have told my team this; it cannot be business as usual in Selangor in the next five years.
“For (when) our challenges (become) even greater, the challenges the people face in getting more dignified jobs are even greater too,’’ he said.
SAS 2023, which takes place from today until Saturday, is expected to see a turnout exceeding 24,000, more than double that of last year’s edition.
The event’s organiser, Invest Selangor Bhd, expects RM700 million worth of potential transactions at this year’s event.
Among those present at the SAS 2023 opening ceremony today were Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong, Selangor state executive councillor for trade, investment and mobility Ng Sze Han, his predecessor Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, and other senior state government representatives.
