Suhaizan takes oath as Pulai MP

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — Johor Amanah vice-chairman Suhaizan Kaiat took his oath of office as a member of the Dewan Rakyat here today.

The swearing-in ceremony took place before Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul before the resumption of the debate of the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review.

Suhaizan, 50, won the Pulai parliamentary by-election on September 9.

Johari, in the ceremony, congratulated Suhaizan and said he hopes the latter can perform his duties responsibly.

“The Dewan Rakyat has the highest position in determining the laws of the country and provides checks and balances to the executive branch for the country’s development.

Johari expressed confidence Suhaizan will perform his duties as a people’s representative honourably.

In the by-election, Suhaizan won by a majority of 18,641 votes, defeating Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Jaafar and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.

The Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections were called after the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23.

Meanwhile, former Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, 53, took his oath of office as a senator before Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
