State executive councillor for disaster Najwan Halimi said the meeting with the State Disaster Unit will emphasise the issue’s risks and formulate follow-up measures to ensure smooth victim rescue operations.

“We prioritise preparedness. The state’s machinery and assets are ready for rescue operations, and we are focusing on flood incidents in urban areas such as Seri Muda in Shah Alam.

“Selangor Volunteers (Serve) members have also been informed to be prepared. They are more oriented towards post-disaster cleanup work,” he said when contacted.

Yesterday, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said 10,000 basic aid packages had been prepared in the event of flooding, double the amount prepared when Selangor faced heavy flooding at the end of 2021.

The state government has also requested the Fire and Rescue Department, the Armed Forces, and the Civil Defense Force provide assets, while local authorities are conducting simulations as training for real-life situations.
