SHAH ALAM, Nov 4 — Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah stressed the importance of establishing a platform for youths to actively engage in the amendment and execution of policies.

During his keynote speech, titled ‘Creating Sustainable Change for the Asian Region’, at the Asean Youth Conference 2023 in Indonesia yesterday, His Highness addressed various regional topics.

They included youth participation in economic development, the significance of education for children and young people, the transformative role of technology in driving regional advancement and prosperity, and the potential of youths as leaders in society.

“His Highness emphasised the need to unlock the full potential of Asean’s youth by actively involving them in policy amendment and its implementation.

“The youth’s voices must be acknowledged, and their aspirations should be transformed into tangible actions.

“This approach will promote active citizenship, empowering young people not only as beneficiaries but also as active contributors in effecting positive changes,” said the Selangor Royal Office in a Facebook post today.

Also part of the delegation were several Orang Besar Istana, including Tengku Musahiddin Shah, Tengku Saifan Rafhan Putra, and Tengku Ezrique Ezzuddean.

The delegation included the Selangor Sports Council’s executive director Mohd Nizam Marjugi, Selangor Youth Council deputy president Mohd Hidayat Mohd Sauffi, and Selangor Youth chief executive officer Nurul Azwa Rodzi.

During the visit, Tengku Amir also paid a courtesy visit to the Asean Secretariat Headquarters and engaged in meetings with international delegations.

They included Asean Deputy Secretary General (Community and Corporate Affairs) Tran Duc Binh, Asean Foundation Executive Director Piti Srisangnam, and Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to Asean Datuk Nur Izzah Wong Mee Choo.

The annual conference, attended by 150 youth delegates from 15 countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Brunei, is designed to offer a platform for young individuals to voice their perspectives and ideas on contemporary matters in the Southeast Asian region and globally.

These topics encompass economic concerns, education, politics, peace, culture, and welfare.
