MB: Only Selangor-born babies will benefit from Iltizam Anak Selangor initiative

By Yasmin Ramlan

SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari stressed that only those born in Selangor will benefit from the state’s Iltizam Anak Selangor (Anas) programme, which provides RM100 in savings annually for five years.

He said while there are other initiatives that also benefit residents who migrated from other states, Anas’ primary focus is for individuals born here.

It is aimed at lessening the financial burden they may encounter when pursuing tertiary education in the future.

However, Amirudin said there will be exceptions for certain localities, specifically the districts of Sabak Bernam and Sepang.

“It has come to our attention that mothers in these two areas encounter difficulties in delivering their babies, as they often have to cross the state border to either Teluk Intan (for Sabak Bernam) and Port Dickson (for Sepang).

“As we await the approval for the construction of new hospitals such as Sungai Pelek and Tanjung Sepat (in Sepang), we will explore the potential benefits that can be offered,” he said at the Selangor State Assembly sitting today.

Amirudin added that the state government and relevant authorities will identify individuals residing in these two districts who are eligible to receive the Anas benefits.

Under Anas, babies in Selangor are eligible to receive RM100 a year in savings until they reach the age of five, as part of the state’s effort to help prepare for their future education.

The contributions will be channeled into their respective Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional (SSPN) Prime accounts for five years.
