SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — The first hospital owned by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), the Selgate Rawang Hospital, is expected to be completed by June next year and begin operating in 2025.

State executive councillor for public health Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the hospital project’s development now stands at 47.9 per cent, with construction costs totalling RM148.5 million.

“The construction cost for Phase One and Phase Two by the new construction company for 230 beds is RM148.5 million. The construction cost for Phase One via the old construction company for 95 beds was RM83 million.

“With the increase in the number of beds in the new construction cost, the costs have been reduced by 26 per cent,” she said.

Jamaliah was responding to a query from Kuala Kubu Baharu state assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong, who asked about the current status of the hospital’s construction, including its costs, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session today.

She added the Selgate Rawang Hospital’s development, which was supposed to be completed in 2019, was delayed due to a labour shortage and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The delay was also caused by additional compliance regulations for this project, which extended the construction schedule.

“This is to meet the latest Fire and Rescue Department requirements, namely, the Fire Escape Bed lift, in compliance with the Uniform Building By-Laws (UBBL) 1984.

“Additional work is also necessary to enlarge the ‘Refuge Area’ (protected area) and add elevators,” Jamaliah said.
