SHAH ALAM, Dec 12 – The Selangor Sports Council (MSNS) is set to welcome new members to its board, including the former National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, said the state executive councillor for youth Najwan Halimi.

Shapawi, who retired from the NSC in September this year after a distinguished four-decade career, will be joined by three other new appointees.

Seri Serdang state assemblyman Abbas Salimmi has been named MSNS’ Deputy Chairman II, adding to the notable changes in the council’s lineup.

In a statement today, Najwan said these appointments are part of a strategic move to reorganise and restructure MSNS, aiming to boost sports development across the state.

“MSNS has appointed new board members in line with its current restructuring and reorganisation plan, based on MSNS’ vision and direction.

“The new board members are individuals with experience and direct involvement in the field of sports and youth development,’’ he said.

Other new appointments include Selangor Youth Council president Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin, Universiti Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation dean Assoc Prof Raja Mohammed Firhad Raja Azidin, and Subang Jaya City councillor Pravin Murali.

Najwan added that State Secretary Datuk Setia Haris Kasim and State Financial Officer Datuk Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin will remain representatives of the state government in MSNS’ management board for the 2023/2025 session.
