Land seizure: Illegal factories given three months to comply once notices issued

By Yasmin Ramlan

KLANG, Dec 20 — Illegal factory operators in Selangor will be given three months to abide by warning notices issued by the state government for them to register themselves before stern action is taken, including land seizure.

According to state executive councillor for local government Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, stern warnings towards these operators who refuse to undergo regularisation process have been issued by the authorities repeatedly over the past years.

“Despite granting leeway since 2006 for illegal factory operators to register themselves, the response from them has been less than favourable.

“Hence, we will now implement strict actions and introduce new policies or offers, while maintaining ongoing enforcement,” he told reporters after officiating the Klang Municipal Council Sustainable Communities Awards 2023 at KSL Esplanade Hotel, here, today.

On December 15, Ng issued a warning to illegal factory operators in the state to undergo a regularisation process or face potential land seizure

Ng had said then that despite efforts to encourage these illegal operators to comply with the respective local council’s laws, they have been futile, with many still choosing to ignore.

“If they remain obstinate, we will instruct the respective local councils to issue Form 7A under the National Land Code for the revocation of land ownership rights,” he had said, adding that once a land is seized, the owner will be required to pay a premium in order to regain possession, with the value to be determined by the state.

Commenting further on the matter today, Ng reiterated that the state government will implement a new policy next year to streamline and facilitate the registration process of factories.

“We will provide them some time… the relevant authorities will issue notices.

“If, after a few months, there is no response, necessary action will be taken. Typically, actions are initiated three months after a notice is issued,” he said.
