SABAK BERNAM, Dec 10 — More than 10,000 visitors enlivened the Ban Canal Carnival throughout the three days of the activity, starting Friday until today.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme was part of an initiative to promote the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda), which is expected to be operational by 2025.

“This three-day carnival showcases local identity, environmental care and a shared vision for future sustainability.

“The development of Sabda is not only focused on efforts to attract large investments to drive the new economy, but it also deepens activities to build the lives of the community here,” he said during the launch of the Ban Canal Carnival at Parit 14, Simpang Lima, here today.

Recognised as a key economic zone under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1), Amirudin said the Sabda initiative driven by the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, aims to ensure Selangor’s food security by supporting agricultural projects in Sabak Bernam.

“Sabda is also focusing on the development of the fishing industry in this district, including the production of downstream seafood products in addition to promoting eco-tourism, aquaculture and agriculture with minimal impact on the environment,” he said.

Earlier, the carnival organised by Sabda, the Selangor Canoe Association and the Sabak Bernam District Council, aimed to introduce the canal ban as an ecotourism destination and will be an annual event.

Various exciting activities include kayak competitions, kayak marathons, boat design, folk sports such as boat racing, boat pulling and decorated rafts.
