Puchong landslide: Soil movement detected, affected homes still unsafe to inhabit

By Danial Dzulkifly

SERDANG, Dec 28 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has advised residents of houses affected by the recent landslide in Taman Wawasan, Puchong against returning to their homes due to ongoing safety concerns.

This is as continuous rain has led to slight soil movement in the area, signalling potential risks, Subang Jaya deputy mayor Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali said.

He added that sheet piling works are currently ongoing at the site, and that the first phase is only expected to be completed in early January.

“The recent rains have caused some minor soil shifts,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a working visit by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming to Pasar Bazar Rakyat, Seri Kembangan, here, today.

“This has necessitated the continuation of sheet piling works to prevent further movements and ensure the area’s stability.”

Upon completion of the first phase, Zulkarnain said the subsequent step will involve importing soil to the site and implementing additional design efforts to ensure the area’s safety.

He added that 375 sheet piles, out of 775, have been installed to date.

The landslide, which occurred along Jalan Wawasan 3/9 and Jalan 3/14 in Taman Wawasan around 7.30pm on December 16, had forced the evacuation of 29 residents from nine terrace houses for safety reasons.

The disaster resulted in four vehicles being buried under the rubble, although no casualties were reported.
