Seri Kembangan flood victims to get financial aid soon, assures rep

SHAH ALAM, Dec 20 — A RM250 disaster aid will be distributed promptly to the 40 families residing in the Seri Kembangan state constituency that were affected by the flood last Sunday. 

Its assemblyman Wong Siew Ki said the respective village heads and council members are in the midst of collecting documents from the impacted families before they are submitted to the district and land office for further action. 

She expects the whole process to approve and distribute the assistance to residents of Jalan SK 13/14 Kampung Baru and Jalan Indah 1/1C Taman Universiti Indah will not take long if the information provided by the victims are complete. 

“Yesterday, I have already requested the residents to snap pictures of the damage and the current condition of their homes,” she said when contacted.

Today, the village heads will collect the aid application form filled up by the heads of households and file a police report on behalf of the affected families. We hope the aid will be distributed immediately.”  

Meanwhile, Wong said she has instructed the Subang Jaya City Council to review the drainage and sewer system in the affected area to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

She said the local authorities will draft a working paper for the infrastructure upgrading works soon, considering the seriousness of the recent flooding incident. 

On the same note, Wong said she has also requested the authorities to activate the flood warning system if a particular area is at risk of being inundated due to heavy rain, to facilitate residents make necessary preparations. 

“Warnings should not be issued too late as this will only burden the residents. The recent episode has resulted in so many damaged belongings due to water rising to one foot. 

“I also sympathise with the elderly who are living alone. There is no one to help move their belongings or clean their houses.”
