Singapore retail sales turn negative in October

SINGAPORE, Dec 5 — The retail sales in Singapore fell 0.1 per cent in October on a year-on-year basis, reversing the 0.8 per cent growth in September, according to data released by the Department of Statistics on Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

The estimated total value of retail sales in October reached 4 billion Singapore dollars (US$2.98 billion), including 13.1 per cent from online retail sales, data showed.

Sales of recreational goods, furniture and household equipment, as well as department stores dropped in October, while food and alcohol sales recorded a year-on-year growth of 22 per cent, according to the data.
