GOMBAK, Dec 6 — The state government is conducting the Jelajah Tekad Pendidikan #KitaSelangor education tour starting today to assist students sitting for two major examinations early next year.
Specifically, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the motivational programme, which emphasises spiritual and religious elements, is reserved for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) students.
The initiative under Yayasan Selangor, which is being held in Gombak today and Kuala Selangor on December 12, involves over 1,000 students and parents.
“For now, the programme will be held in two districts. However, if we receive positive feedback, we will expand it to other districts as well. Our constraint is the event’s timing, as we have to consider the school schedules.
“We will coordinate and discuss with the relevant parties to see if we can organise the programme in the evening or after school. This allows more parents to participate,” he told the press after officiating the programme co-organised by the State Economic Planning Unit and Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation today.
Amirudin said besides motivational talks by experts to boost students’ confidence in facing the examinations, the programme will be filled with various religious activities, including munajat (supplications), dhikr, and solar hajat (prayer of need).
The initiative also aligns with several other education programmes in the state aimed at driving educational transformation from the grassroots level.
“Today’s programme offers an opportunity to share experiences and knowledge to build students’ confidence, as well as to deepen their spiritual relationship with God,” he said.
Helping students succeed
Meanwhile, the Menteri Besar said the state’s various educational assistance provided each year have served as a motivator for students to continue striving for success.
Apart from the Jelajah Tekad Pendidikan #KitaSelangor, Amirudin also cited the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS) and Basic University Fee Assistance (Bayu) as examples of initiatives rolled out by the administration.
“The state government tries its best to implement various programmes, like offering free tuition and providing financial aid to students who are entering school or university.
“Today, we have organised yet another programme to enhance the education sector. Essentially, I can say that several other initiatives are in the pipeline,” he said.
Previously, when tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget on November 10, Amirudin announced an allocation of close to RM100 million to develop the state’s education sector and assist students.
This includes RM9 million for the Selangor State Scholarship Fund, RM5 million for Bayu, and RM3 million for the Higher Learning Institute Entry Reward.
