SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari paid a courtesy visit to his Sabah counterpart Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today to discuss and explore potential collaboration between the two states on food security and tourism.

The meeting, which was held at the Chief Minister’s Office in Kota Kinabalu, was part of the state government’s four-day retreat in the Land Below the Wind.

“We discussed various matters concerning food security and the potential for collaboration between Selangor and Sabah, particularly on cultivating grain maize and livestock farming like cattle.

“This is so we can collectively reduce our dependence on imported food products while having the potential to positively impact raw food items’ prices,” Amirudin posted on social media today.

The two leaders also discussed strategies to enhance the tourism ecosystem to be more sustainable and equipped with digital technology features while preserving the uniqueness of the respective areas to promote local goods.

“I see Sabah as being one of the states that excel, especially in producing local products such as high-quality handicrafts, and I intend to collaborate (with them) in this field,” he said.

The Selangor delegation to the Chief Minister’s office included State Secretary Datuk Haris Kasim, State Legal Advisor Datuk Salim Soib, and State Financial Officer Datuk Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the other state executive councillors are set to hold bilateral meetings with their respective counterparts from the Sabah Cabinet.

In a separate post on X (formerly Twitter), Selangor state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Fahmi Ngah said he paid a courtesy visit to Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif at the Tanjung Aru Library.

“I managed to share about the Smart Selangor initiative, and we exchanged knowledge on our experience developing science, technology and innovation in our respective states.”

The Selangor government’s four-day retreat, which began on Sunday (January 21), aims to assess the First Selangor Plan’s (RS-1) progress and enhance the state executive councillors’ respective portfolios, among several key discussions.

Amirudin had earlier said the retreat is crucial to gather insights from experts in the relevant fields to ensure policies that cater to citizens’ well-being can be implemented.

Senior state officers and representatives of state agencies also attended the gathering.

This is the first retreat since the formation of the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional state government following the conclusion of the Selangor State Election in August last year.
