SHAH ALAM — The construction of a new morning market on Jalan Besar, Seri Kembangan, which is set to commence in the middle of this year, will adopt a modern, environmentally friendly concept that utilises green technology.

Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki said the proposed concept will include the use of solar panels, rainwater harvesting system (SPAH), and composting machines.

“I will try to present this proposal to the state government so that the concept can be an example for the construction of other more environmentally friendly markets in the country,” she said when contacted.

Wong is also pushing to ensure the wet market is more accessible for persons with disabilities and the elderly.

Meanwhile, the DAP lawmaker said the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MBSJ) is expected to organise a design competition for the market.

“I understand that MBSJ has been in touch with an architect association and that they are expected to organise a design competition for the market.

“We really hope that this green concept can be realised, and its construction will proceed according to schedule,” she said.

Previously, Wong announced that the construction of the new market is expected to commence in the middle of this year, with an estimated cost of RM6 million allocated by the state government.

Expected to be completed within three years, it will accommodate some 400 traders.

In the meantime, existing traders will be relocated to a transit location to ensure the smooth operation of their businesses.
