Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said Manjung police received a call from Ngeh to inform of the incident at 2.55am.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code (mischief by fire) and there will be a thorough investigation from all angles.
He advised the public not to make any speculations which can jeopardise investigation and those with information on the incident can contact the investigating officer, ASP Mohd Azalan Ab Karim, at 019-3927837 to assist investigation.
Earlier, DAP urged the Home Ministry and Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to take serious note of the incident, which caused a fire that destroyed Ngeh’s car.
Party secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, in a statement, said the authorities must ensure that public safety and order are always maintained.
“On behalf of the entire DAP leadership, I sympathise and express solidarity with his family.
“DAP strongly condemns this act of violent attack that threatens the safety of his family’s life and insists that any form of violence is unacceptable in dealing with differences in our society,” he said.
Loke said following the incident, a police report was made.
“We are confident that the police will act decisively and quickly to investigate and arrest the parties responsible for the crime,” he said.
Loke added firemen managed to put out the fire before it spread into the residence of the Beruas MP.
