AMPANG JAYA, Feb 6 —Selangor is the first state to receive Baja Rahmah  assistance with 500 buckets of organic fertiliser being distributed to selected farmers throughout the state.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said the fertiliser donated by Yayasan Rahmah Malaysia aims to ease the burden on farmers affected by a sudden increase in fertiliser prices.

“Now, following the sharp increase in fertiliser prices, some farmers have been forced to cut back on fertiliser use and has had an adverse effect on their crop yields.

“The state government has also allocated a lot of funds to provide fertilisers for free or at reduced prices so that farmers can afford to buy quality fertilisers and boost crop yields,” he said.

Earlier, Izham officiated at the state-level launch of the Baja Rahmah initiative  at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Hall in Pandan Indah here, today.

Meanwhile, Yayasan Rahmah Malaysia chairman Mohd Bukhari Bachok said Selangor was chosen as the first state because it has a huge agricultural market.

According to Mohd Bukhari, the initiative will be expanded to other states and involve the distribution of 5,000 bags of organic fertiliser to selected farmers nationwide.

“The fertiliser we are distributing is suitable for all types of plants. The fertiliser has been made with the most cutting-edge, modern methods to help growers increase crop yields,” he said.
